Ramjhula bridge project between Ramkund and Ganeshwadi

Nashik Godaghat Ramjhula Project to Get 85-Foot Lord Ram Statue

Key Highlights

  • An 85-foot statue of Lord Ram is proposed at Godaghat in Nashik.
  • The statue will be part of the Ramjhula Project between Ramkund and Ganeshwadi Vegetable Market.
  • The Nashik Municipal Corporation has proposed ₹6.56 crore for additional works.
  • New ramps will improve access to the pedestrian bridge for devotees, senior citizens and pedestrians.

85-Foot Lord Ram Statue Planned at Godaghat

Nashik: The Ramjhula Project at Godaghat is set to receive a major addition with a proposed 85-foot-tall statue of Lord Ram. The project is being developed in the area between Ramkund and Ganeshwadi Vegetable Market as part of preparations for the growing number of pilgrims expected in Nashik.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation has proposed additional works worth ₹6.56 crore, which include the Lord Ram statue, ramps on both sides of the pedestrian bridge and electrical lighting.

Ramps to Make the Bridge More Accessible

Under the revised plan, ramps will be constructed on both sides of the pedestrian bridge between Balaji Kot and Ganeshwadi Vegetable Market.

The ramps are expected to provide easier access for devotees, senior citizens and other pedestrians. Improved pedestrian movement will be particularly important during the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027, when large crowds are expected around Godaghat and other major pilgrimage locations.

Changes Made to the Ramjhula Design

The original design of the project reportedly included a bow-shaped structure as part of the bridge concept. The latest proposal removes the bow element and instead includes a separate large-scale representation of Lord Ram.

The change has been proposed in view of concerns regarding the bow-shaped design and its implications during periods when the Model Code of Conduct may be applicable.

A staging structure will also be required for installing the proposed 85-foot statue.

₹6.56 Crore Additional Work Proposed

The original Ramjhula project has a tender value of approximately ₹26.26 crore. The work was awarded at a rate 9% above the tender amount, with the work order issued to the contractor on September 18, 2026.

The additional proposal includes:

  • 85-foot Lord Ram statue
  • Ramps on both sides of the pedestrian bridge
  • Electrical lighting
  • Required structural and staging work

The proposed ₹6.56 crore expenditure is expected to be funded through the Nashik Municipal Corporation’s budget for Simhastha-related works.

Existing Contractor May Receive Additional Work

The municipal administration has proposed carrying out the additional work through the existing contractor without inviting a fresh tender.

The proposal is based on provisions that allow additional work up to a specified percentage of the original tender value. The proposal has been placed before the municipal general body for consideration and approval.

Ramjhula Project Ahead of Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027

The development of the Ramjhula Project is part of the broader infrastructure preparations for the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027.

With the proposed 85-foot Lord Ram statue, improved pedestrian access and new lighting, the Godaghat area could become an important attraction for pilgrims visiting Nashik during the Kumbh Mela.
