Trimbakeshwar’s Kushavarta Kund Under Restoration

Trimbakeshwar: Devotees planning to visit Trimbakeshwar during October should be aware that the historic Kushavarta Kund has been temporarily closed to the public from October 1 to October 30, 2026.

The closure has been planned to allow authorities to undertake essential cleaning, drainage, desilting, repair and heritage conservation work at the sacred site. During this period, devotees will not be permitted to enter the main kund area or take a holy dip.

Kushavarta Kund holds great religious importance for pilgrims visiting Trimbakeshwar and is closely associated with the spiritual traditions of the region.

Major Work Ahead of Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027

The restoration work forms part of the wider preparations for the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027– 2028 , also known as the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

Trimbakeshwar is expected to receive a large number of devotees during the Kumbh Mela. To prepare the area for the expected crowds, authorities are working on improving facilities, water management, heritage structures and visitor safety.

The work at Kushavarta Kund includes completely draining the tank, removing accumulated silt and carrying out detailed cleaning and structural repairs.

New Water Purification System

One of the important infrastructure upgrades is the development of a modern water purification system for Kushavarta Kund.

The upgraded system is intended to improve water quality and support better water management during periods when large numbers of pilgrims visit the site.

The facility will be particularly important during the major bathing events associated with the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027, when Trimbakeshwar is expected to witness a significant increase in pilgrim activity.

Heritage Conservation at Kushavarta Kund

Along with cleaning and infrastructure work, efforts are being made to preserve the historic character of Kushavarta Kund.

The old stone steps and other heritage elements are being repaired and conserved. The restoration work aims to improve the condition of the site while maintaining its traditional architectural character.

Heritage lighting is also planned around the historic temples surrounding the kund, which will enhance the area’s appearance while highlighting its cultural and religious significance.

Road and Crowd Management Work

Infrastructure improvements are also taking place around Trimbakeshwar.

Road widening and the removal of encroachments along important routes are part of the preparations for managing the large crowds expected during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

Improved roads and better crowd movement are expected to help reduce congestion and improve safety for pilgrims during major bathing days.

What Should Devotees Know?

During the temporary closure, devotees will not be able to take a holy bath or perform rituals inside the main Kushavarta Kund.

The ongoing restoration is an important step toward preparing Kushavarta Kund and Trimbakeshwar for the Nashik Kumbh Mela, while protecting the religious and heritage importance of this historic pilgrimage site.
